About the leather cuff bracelet
I had a lot of fun designing this pattern; there’s something about the thorny vine look I really love. The leather I chose is quite thin and cuts beautifully on the Cricut, and it’s also a leather that’s great for dyeing.
Darker and yellower leathers tend to alter the true colour of the dye, but I find that this leather doesn’t impact the colour of the dye too much, so you get really vibrant and bright colours. It worked really well in this project.
Below are some high-level photos of the process, and also the finished result.
If you’d like to make your own, I’ve written a post with step-by-step instructions on how to create these kinds of Cricut leather bracelets. If you’d rather just buy one, I sometimes sell similarly-styled laser-cut leather bracelets in my Etsy shop. See if there are any you like!
The making process
If you want a detailed step-by-step, see this video tutorial:
At a high level, the process involved:
- Finding/purchasing a piece of scrap vegtan leather at a local leather supply shop.
- Uploading this design file into Cricut Design Space.
- FYI, you can purchase this design (along with two other thorny designs that come in the same bundle) in my Etsy shop for a few dollars if you’d like to make it! I also have free bracelet patterns available on this site (just filter for bracelet files).
- Cutting the pattern using my Cricut Maker.
- Dyeing the bracelet (using all the colours! )
- Buffing out the extra dye, applying a conditioning oil, and then sealing the leather with a finishing product (front and back).
- Adding snap fastener closures.
And that’s it! Here are some images of the process.
The finished result
For someone who often dresses in safe and neutral tones, I absolutely LOVE bright colours. Dyeing this bracelet was so much fun, and I love how bright and vibrant the colours turned out!
This might be my favourite one yet. The more I play around with this dyeing technique, the more love it. There will definitely be more shaving cream dyeing in my future.
