About the leather cuff bracelet
This was one of the first designs I created in my early days, and I was excited to test cut it on the Cricut. It’s also one of the first bracelets I dyed myself, and was still learning the best way to use leather dye.
It ended up cutting beautifully, and the dyeing process turned out to be very straightforward given that I was dyeing it all one colour, and that colour was black.
Below are some high-level photos of the process, and also the finished result.
If you’d like to make your own, I’ve written a post with step-by-step instructions on how to create these kinds of Cricut leather bracelets. If you’d rather just buy one, I sometimes sell similarly-styled laser-cut leather bracelets in my Etsy shop. See if there are any you like!
The making process
At a high level, the process involved:
- Finding/purchasing a piece of scrap vegtan leather at a local leather supply shop.
- Uploading this design file into Cricut Design Space.
- FYI, you can purchase this design (along with two other rose designs that come in the same bundle) in my Etsy shop for a few dollars if you’d like to make it! I also have free bracelet patterns available on this site (just filter for bracelet files).
- Cutting the pattern using my Cricut Maker.
- Dyeing the bracelet solid black.
- Buffing out the extra dye, applying a conditioning oil, and then sealing the leather with a finishing product.
- Adding snap fastener closures.
And that’s it! Here are some images of the process. I didn’t capture all the steps, but you can see the basic dyeing technique I used.
The finished result
I was thrilled with how well this cut using my Cricut. The leather is really high-quality but quite on the thin side, so that worked out really well on the Cricut. I also love the possibilities for dyeing; I went with black on this one because I was learning, but I can truly do a lot with this leather (see a rainbow-coloured leather cuff bracelet I made using the same leather).
